Community Perspective is a way to view a
place. It does not only focus on people. It focuses on the relationship
of diverse people who live in a certain place. In objective sense,
it is as an organizing principle to maintain a place operation.
In subjective sense, it is a perspective to view a place.
Planning with Community Perspective
does not necessarily mean community building. It only refers to
a type of planning decision which is based on a strong knowledge
of communities, the relations among diverse people which organize
a place operation.
Lacking those knowedge, a planning
decision can damage or strengthen a place operation.
Conventionaly a place operation
refers to infrastructure mechanism. Planning with Community perspectives
adjust the focus onto social mechanism embedded in spatial field.
To equip ourself with this perspective,
we have to adjust our focus from the one on people to the one on
relations. Do you think it is difficult? It is inevitable. We have
to run our immagination. Or we have to travel over different cities
or towns in order to experience the different place operations.
Under this perspective, discrimination,
conflict, orderly spatial use and the like may hint the contour
of communities/place operation.
It is very abstract, isn't it? it
is not necessary! Only if you pay attention to your walking experience
and surrounding environment and ask yourself why people don't act
in this way but that way, you see the force. Then ask yourself "is
this force related to space?" (does this force change when
space varies or the use of space varies.) For example, why do I
easily start talking with strangers in the park, in stead of the
bustle and hustle streets.
